Compliance & Number Intelligence

ENUM / NAPTR Database

Resolve E.164 telephone numbers to SIP URIs, email addresses, and service endpoints in real time using ENUM (Electronic Numbering) DNS lookups per RFC 3761. Integrate number resolution directly into your VoIP routing engine to reduce carrier costs, enable direct SIP peering, and validate ported numbers before routing.

Turning Phone Numbers into Internet Addresses

ENUM converts an E.164 phone number (e.g., +12025551234) into a reversed, dot-separated DNS label (4.3.2.1.5.5.5.5.2.0.2.1.e164.arpa) and queries DNS for NAPTR records. These records return SIP URIs, H.323 addresses, email addresses, or other endpoints associated with that number — enabling free peer-to-peer calls and intelligent routing decisions before touching the PSTN.

ENUM Platform Capabilities

Public & Private ENUM
Query public ENUM trees (e164.arpa, e164.org) for carrier-level number resolution, and maintain a private ENUM tree for your own subscribers. Private ENUM enables on-net call steering without PSTN hairpinning for registered SIP endpoints.
Cached Lookups
ENUM results are cached in our high-speed distributed cache with configurable TTL. Cache hit rates above 90% for on-net traffic eliminate DNS round-trip latency from the call setup path. Negative results (no NAPTR found) cached separately with shorter TTL.
VoIP Routing Integration
ENUM lookup results feed directly into the VoIP authorisation and routing pipeline. If a NAPTR SIP URI is found, the call is routed on-net or via direct peering, bypassing the LCR termination point — reducing cost to near zero for on-net traffic.
Private ENUM Management
Add, modify, and delete NAPTR records for your subscriber numbers via REST API or dashboard. Bulk import supported. Records propagate to the DNS resolver in seconds. Supports multiple service types per number (SIP, email, web, H.323).
TIER-1 ENUM Peering
Peer with major ENUM providers and carrier ENUM registries to expand the on-net reachable number space. Automated NAPTR record exchange with peering partners, and incoming peering query handling for your own number ranges.
Resolution Analytics
Real-time dashboard shows ENUM hit rate, on-net vs off-net call split, cost savings from avoided PSTN termination, and top-resolved number prefixes. Month-on-month trend analysis helps quantify the ROI of ENUM peering expansion.
